Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, AUG. 24. The sky will be partly cloudy on Wednesday with a possibility of a shower or thundershower in some areas during evening or night.

On Tuesday, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 37.4 and 38.3 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26.6 and 25.9 degree Celsius. Humidity was 74 and 64 per cent.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended tomorrow between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in parts of VOC Nagar and Gummidipoondi. Supply will be stopped on Thursday in parts of Kilpauk, Kondithope, Egmore and Pudupet.

Interview

IDP Education Australia will host interview sessions tomorrow between 10.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Hotel Taj Coromandel for students seeking admission to Australian universities. Over 75 representatives from 33 Australian universities and institutions will take part in the session and offer spot admission to eligible students for most of the courses without registration fee. Interviews will be held for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Marketing, Business, Computers and Software Technology, Travel and Tourism, and Fine Arts.

Health camp

The State Bank of India, Commercial Branch, Chennai, as part of its community services banking, organised a free health camp for industrial workers at SIPCOT Industrial Complex, Gummidipoondi, on Saturday. About 350 workers including 40 women of the complex underwent the health check-up. Doctors from M.V.Diabetes Specialities Centre, Gopalapuram, Chennai, and Rajan Eye Care, T. Nagar, and general physicians from Gummidipoondi took part. N.K. Chari, deputy general manager of State Bank, was present.

Thematic plays

Students from eight schools of Vivekananda Educational Society staged thematic plays conveying the message of brotherhood and harmony at Raja Annamalai Mandram. They presented eight short plays on the lives of saints, spiritual and national leaders on the theme `All are not equal, but we are one'. M. Venkatesa Perumal, Chartered Accountant and educationist, presided and Gnana Rajasekaran, Transport Secretary of Kerala, spoke.

Road safety

More than 200 road safety patrol cadets from six schools at Mylapore participated in a common parade and rally at P.S. Higher Secondary School. Vasundra Mani, Deputy Chief Traffic Warden, said there would be classes on safety rules.

B. Raghuveeran, headmaster and traffic warden of the school, gave the students tips on road safety.
