KOCHI, AUG. 24. The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has made arrangements for the supply of 13,300 tonnes of rice and 3,470 tonnes of wheat during the Onam season for the above poverty line (ABL) families in the Ernakulam district. Similarly, 2,200 tonnes of rice and 1,000 tonnes of wheat will be made available for the below poverty line (BPL) families in the district, said a press release from FCI here today. The press release said that the food grains being supplied by the FCI through public distribution outlets were fresh arrivals and were of "very good" quality. Food grains distributed through the PDS outlets will be cheaper compared to the open market by a big margin, said the press release. For the ABL families, the food grains will be available for Rs. 8.90 per kg while for BPL families, the food grains will be available at Rs. 6.20 per kg.
