Cases against traders

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, AUG. 24. The Legal Metrology Department registered 114 cases against traders this month for violating the weights and measures rules. A sum of Rs. 93,800 was slapped as penalty. Cases were registered against petrol pumps, bar hotels, jewellery shops, vegetable stalls and provision stores, an official release said.

Vegetable fair

Kerala is not totally dependent

on other States for vegetables, the Minister for Agriculture, K.R. Gouri, has said. She was inaugurating a fruits and vegetable fair organised by the Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council of Kerala near the university stadium today. Vegetables and fruits procured directly from the farmers are on sale at the fair.

Onam feast

Qatar Airways would serve a traditional Onam feast for those travelling on their flights on August 27, 28 and 29, a release from the airline said.

Keli award

The V.P. Shivakumar Memorial Keli Award for the best short story for the year 2003, has gone to Ashokan Cheruvil. His short story, `Dwaraka Talkies', published in Bhashaposhini dated February, 2003 fetched him the award.
