WASHINGTON, AUG. 24. The United States has condemned the violence in Bangladesh and said a distinction would have to be made between protests and hurling grenades at a political rally. ``...protests are one thing. Throwing a hand grenade in a crowd... at a political rally is quite another... it is our view that it was the intent of those responsible for this to undermine democracy in Bangladesh,'' said the State Department's Deputy Spokesman, Adam Ereli. ``Democracy is about peaceful expression of views. Murdering people who do that is inconsistent with the practice of democracy. So it's something that we condemn. It's something that the people of Bangladesh condemn, and it's something that the Government is committed to stopping,'' Mr. Ereli said.
