Temperature

TIRUCHI, AUG. 24. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 36.4 degree Celsius and a minimum of 27.0 degree Celsius.

Stir continues

Employees of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, belonging to all unions barring the Anna Tholilalar Peravai, conducted an agitation in front of the depots in the city today, demanding bonus and wage revision settlement.

Youth held

The Cantonment police today arrested Sivaraj (34) of Kallukuzhi on the charge of eve-teasing at Senkulam Colony. He was remanded to custody.

Remanded to custody

Chandramohan (26) of Bhagawathi Amman Koil Street was caught red-handed while transporting 35 litres of arrack in a car on Monday. The accused was arrested during a vehicle check and remanded to custody.

Prisoner dies

A prisoner, Armugam (54), who was taken to hospital in a swooned state from the Lalgudi Sub-Jail, died subsequently on Monday.

Training

The executive committee of the Arivoli - Continuing Education Programme, at a meeting held recently, chalked out programmes for the conduct of classes with computers at its continuing education centres. In a release, the Collector, V. Pandian, said the committee also discussed training the needy in tailoring.

Demonstration

Members of the National Federation of Indian Women staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here this morning, urging the police to initiate action against the perpetrators of atrocities against women. They also urged the police to take effective steps to check the rising crimes of murder, sexual harassment of women etc.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur reservoir stood at 89.53 feet today. The inflow was 15,598 cusecs and the discharge 17,996 cusecs.
