Uma Bharti's case

Sir, — The manner in which former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti has flaunted her disregard for the law of the land is shocking.

The media must make it clear that she is not being arrested for hoisting the national flag but for inciting violence in Hubli 10 years ago.

Sir, — One cannot doubt the charisma and dynamism which Ms. Bharti brings to bear on her political life. It is unfortunate that such qualities should be devoted to promote negative values.

What is worse, the leaders of the BJP depend on her predicament to keep alive those negative values which have posed a threat to our national polity.

A. Krishnamurthy,

Sir, — The BJP's response to the issue has proved two things; it is better at the art of theatrical politics than tackling issues of governance, and it has contempt for constitutional niceties.

Sir, — The UPA Government seems more interested in whipping up communal passions, rather than governing the country.

It is amusing that while the Government is determined to take the fight against its `enemies' to its logical conclusion, it prefers to `wait and watch' when it comes to `lesser' issues such as Manipur.

Sir, — When most `tainted' Ministers are searching for reasons to cling on to power, Ms. Bharti has set an example for other politicians by resigning.

Pudukottai, T.N.
