BELLARY, AUG. 25. The district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will observe a bandh on Thursday in response to a call given by the party's State unit to protest against former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Uma Bharti, being remanded in judicial custody. Ms. Bharti surrendered before the court at Hubli on Wednesday. The court remanded her to judicial custody till September 7. The party leaders will take out a procession in Bellary, the district headquarters. G. Janardhan Reddy, president of the district unit, has asked all party leaders at the taluk level to participate in the bandh.
Rasta roko
Our Davangere Staff Correspondent reports: Tension prevailed as activists of the BJP and Yuva Morcha took out procession in the city protesting against Ms. Bharti being remanded in judicial custody. They staged a rasta roko on the Bangalore-Pune Highway. The president of yuva morcha, C.T. Ravi, and S.A. Ravindranath and Renukacharya, MLAs, participated. The police had strengthened security.
