Chidambaram thanks steel units
NEW DELHI,
AUG. 25.
The Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, has thanked the steel industry for reducing prices of all products, the cut ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs. 2,000 a tonne. In a statement, Mr. Chidambaram said the Government was happy to note that the main steel producers had announced voluntary reduction in prices. "I am particularly happy that Tata Steel took the lead and announced a substantial price reduction of Rs. 2,000 a tonne on main products. It is a happy coincidence that the reduction was announced on the eve of the centenary of late J. R. D. Tata, whom we remember today with warmth and pride,'' Mr. Chidambaram said.
