VISAKHAPATNAM, AUG. 25. A function organised to mark the inauguration of the new premises of the urban unit of the Telugu Desam Party here on Wednesday saw the supporters of a former city MLA, Pinninti Varalakshmi, criticising the former MP and senior party leader, M.V.V.S. Murthy, for not inviting their leader to the programme. Dr. Varalakshmi, who did not get party ticket in the last elections, was allegedly not invited to the function along with another former MLA, P.G.V.R. Naidu. The followers of the former expressed their ire as soon as Dr. Murthy arrived at the venue. Dr. Murthy was shocked at the development and tried to pacify Dr. Varalakshmi's supporters.
Loud protests
His claim that the invitation might not have reached Dr. Varalakshmi provoked louder protests. The former MLA's supporters continued with their protest for about an hour and calmed down after Dr. Murthy assured them that such incidents would not happen again. Later, addressing party leaders and workers after inaugurating the new premises, Dr. Murthy urged them to work hard and be united. Among those present were senior leaders -- S.A. Rehaman, K. Gangireddy, the Deputy Mayor, Malla Appala Raju, Pyla Mutyala Naidu, Palla Simhachalam and others.
