ATHENS, AUG. 25. India's Anju Bobby George qualified for the women's long jump final with a leap of 6.69m in her very first attempt at the Olympic Games on Wednesday. The qualifying mark was 6.65m. In hockey, defending champion Netherlands reached the men's final, defeating Germany 3-2. India lost 3-0 to Pakistan in a 5-8 classification match. Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva bettered her own world record to win the women's pole vault gold from countrywoman Svetlana Feofanova on Tuesday with an effort of 4.91m. Moroccan runner Hicham El Guerrouj finally got what he yearned for all these years: the Olympic 1,500m gold which had eluded the four-time world champion. Four years ago in Sydney, stress had got the better of him while in the 1996 edition at Atlanta, he fell during the last lap to finish last. He was third time lucky at the Games.
