PAPER-CUTTINGS CAME in handy to the SFI-led Kerala University Union in its campaign against the State Government in the self-financing professional colleges issue. The Union organised an exhibition comprising articles which appeared in various newspapers at various stages of the self-financing colleges issue. The Leader of the Opposition, V. S. Achuthanandan, inaugurated the exhibition. For the passers-by, uninitiated into the complexities involved in the self-financing colleges issue, the exhibition proved to be an eye-opener. The Union had also given catchy captions to these posters.
Onam celebrations
The University College grounds will be hub of student activities this Onam season as the university union prepares to usher in the festive season with cultural programmes. According to the union chairman, A.A. Rahim, the student body aims to "recapture the lost glory and the spirit of brotherhood" that marked Onam celebrations of yore. The cultural activities began with a ganamela on Wednesday. In the coming days the programmes include folk song presentations, cinematic dances, comedy shows, musical fusion and also a `cultural evening' of the students from the Madurai Kamraj University. The Union's Onam programmes will conclude on September 30, with a cultural programme organised by the students of the Government Women's College, Thiruvananthapuram.
