Efforts on to wipe out illicit arrack

NAGAPATTINAM, AUG.26. A special police control room has been set up here to wipe out sale and distillation of illicit arrack and the public can contact the phone number 04365-240430 and inform about sale or distillation of illicit arrack anywhere in the district.

K. A. Abdul Rahuf, Superintendent of Police, said that the control room would function round-the-clock and 12 special teams had been formed to rush to the areas and arrest the bootleggers as soon as the control room received the information.

Fifty offenders had been arrested under the Bootleggers Act in this district and said that stern action would be initiated against those engaged in sale and distillation of illicit arrack.

The SP said that at a special meeting convened a few days ago by Ramesh Kudavala, DIG of Police, Thanjavur Range, and attended by the Superintendents of Police of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam, the DIG gave strict instructions to them that all offenders in these districts should be arrested immediately.

The DIG had warned that stern action would be taken against police officials of respective areas if the special squads formed by the DIG detected any sale or distillation of illicit arrack, he said.
