CUDDAPAH, AUG. 26. The District Judge, T. Lakshmana Rao, on Thursday called upon scientists and engineers to explore the reasons for nature's vagaries. Addressing a day-long national workshop on `environmental pollution and awareness' at the KSRM College of Engineering here, the Judge noted that the southern States suffered from scanty rainfall and acute water scarcity while the northern States were affected by floods and excessive rainfall. The vast variation in climatic conditions region-wise need to be studied in a scientific manner, he observed. The college principal, K.S.N. Reddy, who presided, lamented that air and water pollution, improper disposal of industrial waste and plastic goods etc. were leading to rise in environmental pollution and lack of adequate rainfall. Lamenting the rain-fed areas becoming parched due to scanty rainfall, he stressed the need for massive tree plantation for minimising environmental pollution. The workshop convenor, N. Kumara Swamy, said indiscriminate strewing of industrial and domestic waste, water contamination, and congested and unclean surroundings were leading to incidence of several diseases, due to lack of awareness among the growing population.
