Land development scheme launch in November

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH, AUG. 26. An Integrated Land Development Scheme will be launched in November this year for the social and economic upliftment of families below the poverty line, said the Joint Collector, G. Jayalakshmi, on Thursday.

Identifying land

Addressing the Cuddapah divisional review meeting at Sabha Bhavan here, she urged the revenue, agriculture and groundwater officials and surveyors to identify 600 acres of land in each of the 51 mandals for implementation of the scheme. Fifty per cent of beneficiaries should belong to Scheduled Castes and 10 per cent of Scheduled Tribes, she explained.

Ms. Jayalakshmi exhorted officials to strictly enforce the WALTA Act and get all borewells in the district registered. She directed seizure of lorries and tractors that unauthorisedly transported sand.

Expressing satisfaction at tree plantation in Khajipet, Vallur and Kamalapuram mandal, she wanted plantation of saplings widely in areas which received rainfall. Bio-diesel plantations would be raised in Galiveedu and Lakkireddipalle mandals, she added.

A project titled `Civic Explora' would be launched in all major panchayats for upkeep of sanitation, she said and urged officials to coordinate with the people for maintaining sanitation. She asked officials to send children with congenital heart problems to Hyderabad for surgery.

Utilisation certificates

The District Revenue Officer, G. Joshi Babu, urged officials to submit utilisation certificates on funds released in the last four years for disbursing old age pensions, flood relief and assistance under Apatbandhu scheme.

The ZP Chief Executive Officer, R. Durga Prasad, called for community sanitation and individual hygiene, to check incidence of diseases. He sought people's cooperation as the Government employee strength was not commensurate to the population growth.

The Project Director of DRDA/Velugu, R. Venugopala Rao, said the land development scheme would be implemented with an outlay of Rs. 15 crores to cover 20,000 acres in the district. He wanted officials to send reports classifying the identified lands into blocks, groundwater levels, soil state, power facilities and list of beneficiaries to the JC and DWMA Project Director by September 15.

Contagious diseases

The District Medical and Health Officer, T. Venugopal, said incidence of contagious diseases was lesser than last year. Medical officials were deputed to Sambepalle mandal where substantial malaria cases were reported. Three children with congenital heart problems in Cuddapah and one each in Veeraballe, Rayachoti, Chinnamandem and Khajipet were identified in the division, he stated.

The District Panchayat Officer, Satya Prakash, said sand quarrying was banned in the district. Officials and public representatives from sarpanch onwards could seize vehicles unauthorisedly transporting sand and file cases in police stations, he said. The District Youth Welfare Officer,

B. Maheswara Reddy, said RSTD facility would be provided in public telephone booths in all the villages having a population of 5,000.
