MUMBAI, AUG. 26. The cellular telephony space looks to be in the thick of another price war. While earlier in the week, Reliance and Airtel announced cuts in their pre-paid tariff rates, today Hutch too announced new, cheaper rates for its pre-paid customers. Hutch today introduced a simple `flat-rate' tariff structure for all Hutch and Orange pre-paid users. The new tariffs allow pre-paid users to make local calls to any mobile phone at 99 paise per minute (as a special promotion) and STD calls to any phone in the country for Rs. 2.25 per minute. Users opting for the new tariff will be charged a monthly fee of Rs. 25 for each subscription. Hutch users not opting for this promotion will anyway pay a lower rate of Rs. 1.99 for all local calls, compared to the existing rate of Rs. 2.75. These rates are not dissimilar to the cuts announced by Airtel and Reliance earlier.
