Srichaphan enters quarterfinals

COMMACK, AUG. 26. Two-time defending champion Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand advanced to the quarterfinals of the TD Waterhouse Cup tennis on Wednesday night, beating Wayne Ferriera 7-6(3), 7-5.

Paradorn beat the South African for the third time in four matches this year and earned his 30th victory to go along with the title he won at Nottingham, England.

``Wayne always gives me a tough time in every match,'' said Paradorn, who has won 12 straight matches in the tournament. ``I really enjoy this tournament. The courts are great and it's my place to do well.

``When I won in Nottingham earlier this year, I expected to do well at Wimbledon, but lost in the first round. Hopefully, I'll win this title again and have a better result in the U.S Open next week.''
