KOCHI, AUG. 26. The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) today issued closure notice to 32 industrial units in the State for not complying with the rules and regulations under the Hazardous Waste Rules.

The chairman of PCB, Paul Thatchil, said that the companies that were served notice include FACT Udyogmandal division; FACT Petrochemicals division; FACT Cochin Division; HOC; Kochi Refineries Ltd; Binani Zinc; Hindustan Insecticides Ltd; Travancore Titanium Products; Hindustan Newsprint, Kottayam; Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd; Travancore Cochin Chemicals; Brahmapuram Diesel plant; Carborandum Universal, Koratty; Cochin Leathers, Edayar; Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd; English India Clays, Thiruvananthapuram; Hindustan Latex; HMT, Kalamassery; Indian Aluminium smelter unit; Malabar Cements, Palakkad; Merchem Ltd; OEN, Mulanthuruthy; Philips Carbon Black Ltd, Karimugal; South India Wire Rope, Aluva; South India Coir Mats and Mattings, Alappuzha; Sud Chemicals India, Tata Ceramics and Traco Cable, Irumpanam. The closure notice was served to the companies based on the recommendations made by the Supreme Court Monitoring Committee (SCMC). Mr.Thatchil said that the companies that were asked to shut down would be permitted to operate once they take proper steps as per the hazardous waste rules.
