Rupee consolidates
MUMBAI,
AUG. 27.
Despite customary month-end pressures, the rupee today consolidated gains against the U.S. currency on the back of healthy trade inflows coupled with positive sentiment following a further slide in global crude oil prices and relatively contained inflation.
In moderately active two-way trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee closed at 46.30/31 a dollar, another three paise rise from Thursday's close of 46.33/34, but off intraday high of 46.28/29. It, however, opened weak at 46.3450/3550 and fell to an early low of 46.36/38, dragged down by the usual month-end dollar demand.
