Barista to scale up operations

CHENNAI: The Sterling group-controlled coffee retailer, Barista Coffee Company Ltd., is planning to scale up its operations by adding 60-odd new outlets, either through franchisee route or by putting up own stores, over the next one year. According to Brotin Banerjee, Head (Marketing and Strategy), the new wi-fi-enabled Barista stores would sport a fresh and vibrant look. Each store will see an investment of Rs. 15-20 lakhs, depending on its location. It is opening two new ones in Chennai on Saturday. Much of the new outlets will come up in the South. Barista has four retail formats — espresso café, store-in-store, kiosks at malls and airports and stores in corporate environment. — Our Special Correspondent
