MUMBAI, AUG. 27. In its run-up to achieve five million tonnes of crude steel manufacturing capacity in the year 2005, Tata Steel, is setting up various manufacturing facilities and has also launched company-wide motivational and awareness programmes. The five major milestones on Tata Steel's way to achieve the target are: augmenting raw material yards and setting up of a new sinter plant in addition to the existing two, upgrading of the existing `G Blast Furnace' for additional capacity, upgrading of five continuous casting lines in LD-1 and LD-2, upgrading of hot strip mill and its reheating furnaces for hot rolled coils and the addition of a new rebar mill. With these new facilities, Tata Steel's crude steel making capacity at Jamshedpur will increase by one million tonnes from the existing four million tonnes. As part of its vision strategy, the company intends to move a step closer to its vision of seizing "the opportunities of tomorrow and creating a future that will make us an EVA positive company.'' Tata Steel also launched a company-wide motivational and awareness programme. The campaign, `Panch Ki Anch,' was launched jointly by B. Muthuraman, Managing Director, Tata Steel, and D. K. Singh, General Secretary, Tata Worker's Union. Mr. Muthuraman said the new capacity addition was not just an engineering project but an operational challenge and it would require the active participation and contribution of all employees to reach the target. This year's campaign would focus on the attention of all employees to achieving five million tonnes capacity in the year 2005.
