BANGALORE, AUG. 27. A U.S. based media group reported on Thursday that Infosys Technologies was looking for a second location in China, where it has one facility in Shanghai. While the report from Shanghai quoted a senior Infosys (Shanghai) executive, the firm's official spokesperson here denied there were any such plans. Infoworld, an IT news portal run by the Infoworld Media Group, a subsidiary of the U.S. based media company IDG, reported that Infosys was "running out of space and is scouting locations for a second outsourcing facility in China." The report quoted K. S. Suryaprakash, head of delivery operations at Infosys Technologies (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., as saying "We are already looking." However, Infosys' official spokesperson here said, "We know about the report, but we are not looking for a second location." Infosys was "checking internally" whether Mr. Suryaprakash indeed spoke to the media in China and "if he was misquoted in any way," the spokesperson told The Hindu. But according to the news report, Infosys was considering six Chinese cities, and would make a decision in the coming months.
