Indian Bank to clash with YMSC

DINDIGUL, AUG. 27. Indian Bank and Young Men Social Centre, both from Chennai, entered the final of the TNEB Trophy State-level invitation football tournament in contrasting styles here on Friday.

While YMSC had an easy 3-1 win over Tiruchi District Football Association, Indian Bank had to struggle to overcome defending champion Netaji SC by a solitary goal, which came five minutes from close.

Netaji dominated the match in the first session and also for a major part of the second. It could have taken the lead in the first half but Kausikan, Muthusamy and Vivikumar missed easy chances. Indian Bank goalkeeper Felix brought off a few good saves.

Indian Bank piled up the pressure towards the end and Amalraj scored off a fine cross from Hamilton Bobby.

In the other semifinal, Pavalavannan put YMSC ahead in the 20th minute and Kanakaraju increased the lead in the 35th. The Tiruchi team, however, reduced the deficit with a goal by Mahesh in the 50th minute. Pavalavannan put the issue beyond doubt by scoring the third goal for his side in the 65th minute. — Our Correspondent
