`Sonia encouraging anti-reservationists'

By Our Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA, AUG. 27. The Kerala Muslim Jamaat Council State general secretary, A. Pookunju, today alleged that the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, was encouraging those who were trying to subvert the recommendations of the Narendran Commission, which aims to ensure social justice to the backward communities in the State.

In a statement here, Mr. Pookunju noted that the Congress leadership in the State and Ms. Gandhi were trying to protect the interests of those who had followed the policy of equi-distance in elections and those who had supported the BJP. Though almost all political parties that have representation in the State legislature had supported the Narendran Commission's recommendations, the Congress was still dancing to the tunes of those who opposed job reservation in Government service, he alleged.

Protest

Mr. Pookunju said the Jamaat Council would organise protests in the around 10,000 Jamaats of the Muslim community in the State. Arrangements were being made to conduct speeches against the stand of the Congress in the mosques in the State, said Mr Pookunju.

He demanded that Ms. Gandhi should persuade the State Government to implement Narendran Commission report.
