BANGALORE, AUG 27. The inaugural Asian Pankration Championship got off to a decent though delayed start at the Koramangala Indoor stadium here on Friday. Participants from six countries besides host India will vie for honours in this ancient form of Greek Martial arts which is being revived in right earnest by the Karnataka chapter of the India Federation of Pankration Athlima, under the stewardship of Suresh Gopi, an eighth degree Black Belt. Praveen Ranka, also an 8th degree black belt is the technical chairman of the sport, which is where the modern forms of Oriental Martial Arts evolved from. The two day event was inaugurated by Sri K.V.R. Tagore, IPS, IGP, Central Range, Bangalore with demonstrations which ranged from kalaripayattu from Kerala to the Phillipines Martial Art form of `Armis' and karate. The bouts are slated for the morrow.
M.C. Sharada a member of the Indian team took the oath on behalf of the participants.

Coach: B.Sunil Kumar. Asst. coach: Krishna Pratap. Team Manager: Shashikala. Referee: Hari Adikeshav.
