BANGALORE, AUG. 27. Host KSCA XI clinched the MRF Trophy KSCA all-India invitation tournament here on Friday. In the three-day final that concluded at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, KSCA XI defeated ONGC by 87 runs. Earlier, KSCA XI rode high on all-rounder Stuart Binny's belligerent unbeaten 83 to score 185 in its second innings. Binny (83 n.o., 81b, 3x3, 3x6) played with poise and power while the others succumbed to off-spinner Amit Sharma (four for 60) and leg-spinner Amit Mishra (four for 66). "I played my natural game and I just wanted the batsmen at the other end to stay with me," Stuart said. His effort won him the `man of the final' award later in the day. Chasing 187 for a victory, the ONGC chase ended in despair and as its captain Sandeep Sharma pointed out later, the batsmen were guilty of throwing their wickets. Gagan Khoda, Sandeep Sharma, Amit Dilip, Mithun Manhas and Amit Sharma indulged in across-the-line shots and bolstered the bowling figures of spinners Vadeyaraj (three for 43) and Raghavendra (four for 32). Mohammed Saif's unbeaten 30 offered some respite but Manoj Mudgal's run out at the other end made matters worse and eventually ONGC made 99 in 26.4 overs.
The scores (final):
KSCA XI 285 and 185 in 36.5 overs (Stuart Binny 83 n.o., Amit Sharma four for 60, Amit Mishra four for 66) bt ONGC 284 and 99 in 26.4 overs (Mohammed Saif 30 n.o., Raghavendra four for 32, S. Vadeyaraj three for 43).
