TIRUMALA, AUG. 26. The Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, today appealed to the naxalites to maintain patience and co-operate with State Government in carrying ahead the peaceful negotiations, which is already in progress. Talking to media persons, the Home Minister, who arrived here this evening, said that the Government shall take all steps to ensure that the talks with the PWG leaders proceed without any hitch. In case, if there still arises any disruption to the peace-talks, the Government is all set to initiate measures to deal it effectively. Further, to strengthen the ongoing peace talks with the naxalites, the Government has already constituted a two-member committee, which shall be in direct touch with the PWG leaders. The committee shall not only examine the demands made by the naxalites but also bring it to the notice of the Government.
TDP rebuffed
Reacting to a question regarding the alleged killing of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists by Congressmen and the serious allegations being made by the various TDP leaders, Mr. Reddy brushed it aside and said that the Opposition was unnecessarily politicising the issue. The concern of the State Government is only to think as to how best it could provide justice to the affected people and not to answer the baseless allegations being made by the Opposition leaders. In reply to the criticism made by the TDP Chief, N. Chandrababu Naidu, that the police are not discharging their duties impartially, the Minister shot back and said that it is the primary duty of the Police Department to execute the orders of the Government. They can't work at their whims and fancies. After all, they are binded to work according to the directions of the Government, basically being a disciplined department.
Brahmotsavams
Further, the Minister said that the Government is attaching a lot of importance in maintaining the law and order at Tirumala. On the ensuing nine-day annual brahmotsavams, he said that steps shall be initiated to see that incidents of `stampede' which took place during the last two years shall not recur. Earlier, on his arrival at Tirumala, he was accorded a warm reception by the TTD JEO, A.V. Dharma Reddy, TUDA Chairman, Karunakarreddy and other TTD officials including the district Congress leaders. The Minister offered prayers at the Hill Temple this evening and is also likely to visit the temple for on Friday morning.
