HYDERABAD, AUG. 27. The Pradesh Congress Committee president, D. Srinivas, has denied differences between the Congress party and Government on free power. The PCC president, at a press conference here on Friday, refuted the charges in a section of media to the effect. "Nobody can create a rift between the party and the Government as is being made out. Free power is a Congress commitment which has the blessings of the AICC chief, Sonia Gandhi and approval of the party high command," Mr. Srinivas said accusing the Telugu Desam Party of trying to create confusion over the issue. Referring to the Government's crackdown on unauthorised connections, Mr. Srinivas said the Congress had promised free power supply to existing connections and not to the new ones. On the sudden rise in the unauthorised connections, which touched 3.5 lakhs, the PCC chief said the Government had promised to regularise at least 50,000 connections every year. He said the all-party meeting convened earlier this week wanted the Government to come out with a clear-cut policy on the issue.
