Anju finishes sixth in Athens

ATHENS, AUG. 27. Anju Bobby George equalled her personal best effort of 6.83m in the women's long jump but it was not enough to win a medal, as she eventually finished sixth at the Olympic Games on Friday. Tatyana Lebedeva won gold, as the Russians completed a medal sweep in the event.

Polish great Robert Korzeniowski won a record third consecutive Olympic 50-km walk title, finishing ahead of Russians Denis Nizhegorodov and Aleksey Voyevodin. Incidentally, no other athlete has ever won the event twice.

In men's hockey, India finished seventh after beating South Korea 5-2 in the 5-8 classification encounter.

The Indian women's 4x400 relay squad of Rajwinder Kaur, K.M. Beenamol, Chitra K. Soman and Manjit Kaur stormed into the final, finishing third in its semifinal heat.
