Bombay Gymkhana begins well

KOLKATA, AUG. 28. Tile favourite Bombay Gymkhana started off its campaign in style drubbing local challenger Young Rugby Club 72-0 in the Hutch All India and South Asia Ruby, which began here at the CC&FC ground today.

While Gymkhana, which was the runner-up in the last edition of the tournament, preformed quite to the expectations before moving into the Main Cup, the biggest surprise of the day came from the local police team — Kolkata Police — which made a late comeback to overturn the Maharashtra State Police (MSP) 14-10.

In the third match of the initial classification play-offs, the Army lost to Future Hope Kolkata 5-15. All the three losers will now be playing for the Losers' Plate.

The results:

Bombay Gymkhana 72 (Francis Brown 17, Gareth Kerr 10, Jug Johar 10, Guru 10) bt Young Rugby Club 0; Kolkata Police 14 bt Maharashtra State Police 10 ; Future Hope 15 bt Army 5 — Our Sports Reporter
