Youth told to study ideology of Urs

M.A. Sadiq, Deputy Commissioner, inaugurating the birth anniversary celebrations of former Chief Minister, Devaraja Urs, in Chitradurga on Saturday.

CHITRADURGA, AUG. 28. G.H. Thippa Reddy, Chitradurga MLA, has called upon the youth to study the ideology of social justice and life of former Chief Minister, D. Devaraja Urs, and put them into practice.

Addressing a function organised to celebrate the 89th birth anniversary of Devaraja Urs here on Saturday, Mr. Reddy asked officials to design programmes to introduce Urs's ideology, his efforts to uplift the oppressed, and sense of social justice to the younger generations.

Inaugurating the function, M.A. Sadiq, Deputy Commissioner, said that students from the backward classes who have topped the Secondary School Leaving Certificate and Pre University Certificate examinations would be awarded scholarships. He also promised to construct the Urs Bhavan in the district at a cost of Rs. 10 lakhs. Yadava Reddy, a lecturer in the Government First Grade College, spoke about Urs's contributions and achievements.

Girija Pujari Ningappa, president of the Chitradurga Zilla Panchayat, V. Mara Nayaka and Hanumakka, members of the zilla panchayat, spoke on the occasion.

Y. Eranna, district officer of backward classes, welcomed the gathering.

Nandeesh, deputy secretary of the zilla panchayat; K.T. Halaswamy, Regional Transport Officer; Shivanna, vice-president of the Hiriyur Taluk Panchayat; B.N. Manjunath, chief accounts officer of the zilla panchayat; and B. Mallikarjuna, deputy director of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies, were present.
