Moderate voices

Sir, — This refers to the article, "Moderate voices in Islam" (Aug 28). It is time the drowned out voices of moderate Muslims were made public.

The clerics refuse to let go of their interpretation of Islam for fear of losing power. This is quite similar to the state of the Roman Church in the 1500s.

It is time for the average Muslim to speak out so that the world can shed its fear, mistrust and hatred towards the community and make the religion tolerant as it was meant to be.

Nadira Jahan,

Mangalore
