Woman found murdered; daughter missing

BANGALORE, AUG. 29. Kasturiamma (40) was found strangulated near her house at Kanakanagar in Kumaraswamy Layout Police Station limits on Sunday morning. The victim's 18-year-old daughter, Sakriamma, who was staying with her in a shed, was reported to be missing. The police said they suspected her involvement in the death of Kasturiamma.

It is said that Kasturiamma had fallen into bad company. Sakriamma was reportedly upset over this and her mother's alcoholism. Their shed was located close to an arrack shop.

According to preliminary information, Kasturiamma was killed on Saturday night. Her body, with wounds on the neck and ears, was found in a nearby graveyard by some neighbours, who had gone to answer nature's call. The body was later shifted to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem. The mother and daughter were from Yadgir in Gulbarga and were staying in the shed for the past month, working as manual labourers, the police said. The Kumaraswamy Layout police have registered a case of murder.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), visited the spot.

Robbed

Balaji (35), an autorickshaw driver, was assaulted with a chopper and robbed of his vehicle by three passengers in the Madiwala Police Station limits on Saturday.

The three culprits hired the autorickshaw at about 7.30 p.m. and asked the driver to take them to Arsikere.

When the vehicle reached an isolated spot near H.S.R. Layout, the three allegedly picked a quarrel with Balaji and attacked him before driving away the vehicle. Balaji was shifted to a private nursing home for treating his injured limbs.

Arrested

The Hennur police have arrested three persons, Suresha (19) of and Devendra (19) of Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, and Babu (18) of Vellore district, in connection with the alleged murder of Shankaraiah (26) on October 4, last year.

According to the police, the accused attacked the victim with lethal weapons and threw his body near the railway track in Hennur Horamavu.

The victim was a resident of Charlapalli in Chittoor district.

The police said Shankaraiah's father and the accused, Devendra's father, had dispute over a piece of land.

The accused was taken to the city on the pretext of stealing sandalwood trees here, the police said.

Killed in accident

A scooterist, Ramanna (40), was fatally knocked down by a lorry on Mysore Road near Pantharapalya in Byatarayanapura Police Station limits on Saturday afternoon.

The Byatarayanapura traffic police seized the lorry and are on the lookout for the lorry driver.

In another accident, a man was run over by a lorry on Varthur Main Road in HAL Police Station limits on Saturday.

The police nabbed the driver of the lorry after giving him a chase.
