PANAJI: The Karnataka-based Vega Auto Accessories Pvt. Ltd., the third largest motorcycle helmet manufacturer, aims to push its sales to Rs. 25 crores during the current financial year from Rs. 15 crores. Vega, which has its headquarters in Belgaum, has a capacity to produce more than 50,000 ISI-complaint helmets a month, said Dilip Chandak, Vega Managing Director. Mr. Chandak told The Hindu here on Saturday that around 50 per cent of the helmets were being exported, mainly, to the U.S. The helmet market in the U.S. is different from India, where motorcycle users wear helmet more for fancy, he noted.Vega's Marketing Manager, Swapnil Mehta, expressed serious concern over the non-branded and non-ISI helmet market, which was growing almost parallel to the branded helmet market. Besides posing serious threat to the safety of the users, non-branded helmets were not subject to any state regulation, he noted.
