Asian junior men's championship from Sept. 8

HYDERABAD, AUG. 30. The ninth Asian junior men's handball championship, featuring 12 teams, will be held at the Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy indoor stadium here from September 8 to 17.

The last edition of the tournament was held at Doha where host Qatar emerged victorious and Kuwait finished runner-up. India did not take part in that tournament.

Releasing the details at a press conference here on Monday, S.M. Bali, secretary general of the Handball Federation of India (HFI) said the teams would be divided into two groups for the league stage. Group A will comprise Qatar, Korea, UAE, China, Uzbekistan and Iran while Kuwait, India, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Bangladesh and Oman will make up Group B.

The Indian team: Ratish Kumar Pandey, Jain Prasad and Aquil Akhtar (all BSF), Faisal Ahmad Khan (CISF), Nitin Khajuria (J&K), Sanjay Kumar, Mohinder Singh and Charanjit Singh, (Punjab), Pardhuman Signh (CRPF), Neeraj Sharma (Goa), Harjinder Singh (Navy), Rakesh Kumar (SSCB), Mohd. Anwar (Andhra Pradesh), Ramesh Chand (Delhi), Prem Kumar (SAI), Mohd. Imran Tanveer (Jharkhand). Stand bye: Vaibhav Wagh (Maharashtra) and Henry Singh Loitongam (MEG). Manager: Goutam Choudhary (Assam). Coahces: Vikramjit Singh and Suresh Kumar (both SAI).
