KOCHI, AUG. 30. Top seed R.R. Laxman from Chennai won the 16th Cusat Open all-India FIDE-rated chess tournament at the Cochin University here on Monday. The 21-year-old, who collected 9.5 points from 10 rounds, received Rs 15,000 for his effort. Second seed K. Ratnakaran (8 pts) of Southern Railway finished second. The FIDE vice-president, P.T. Ummer Koya, gave away the prizes.
