IT raids on premises of Goa Minister, ex-MLA

PANAJI,
AUG. 31.
A high-level team of Income Tax department officials from Bangalore today raided the premises of a BJP Minister in the Manohar Parrikar Government and of a former Congress MLA who recently quit his Assembly seat and joined the BJP on Monday.
More than 30 officers under the supervision of the Director General of Income Tax (Investigation), Bangalore, simultaneously raided the premises of the Minister for Town and Country Planning,
Atansio Monserrate alias Babush, at Taleigao in Panaji and those of Isidore Fernandes at St. Inez in Panaji and at Poinguinim at 7 a.m. Mr. Monserrate is believed to have been instrumental in Mr. Fernandes resigning his position and joining the BJP.
While income tax officials were tight-lipped about the raid, Mr. Monserrate told reporters that the raid was a political vendetta being unleashed by the Congress.
