Davangere will soon get a textile park

DAVANGERE, AUG. 31. The proposed textile park and powerloom complex project at Davangere will soon be implemented, according to S.A. Ravindranath, MLA from Mayakonda. Inaugurating a conference of weavers here on Monday, Mr. Ravindranath said the elected representatives of the BJP, led by G.M. Siddeshwar, Davangere MP, had been holding talks with the Union Government in this connection. He claimed that the project was almost through.

The project, which was proposed during the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance Government, had been delayed because of change of guard at the Centre, he said and added that the BJP would not give up its efforts to get the project implemented. He recalled the efforts of late G. Mallikarjunappa, former MP of Davangere, in rejuvenating the Yallamma Cotton Mill here.

Jobs

Kasal Vittal, president of the Chamber of Commerce, said that if the project were implemented, it would provide jobs to at least to one lakh people. A team had gone to Chennai to make a study and it (team) had made recommendations for the implementation of the project.

He expressed regret over the closure of almost cotton mills in Davangere. Vrushabendrappa, principal of BIET, spoke.
