TUTICORIN: The PSA SICAL, which operates the container terminal in Tuticorin Port Trust, has handled its one-millionth TEU (twenty equivalent units) on Monday since it started its operations on December 21, 1999. The Chairman of Tuticorin Port Trust, N. K. Raghupathy, gave the order for discharge of the one-millionth container from MV Tiger Arrow at Tuticorin Container Terminal. The function was attended by Mr. Raghupathy, the Commissioner of Customs, Veeraiyan, and others. The Tuticorin Container Terminal, which has excellent road and rail connectivity to various industrial clusters such as Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Madurai and Tirupur, has direct services to the East Coast of the U.S., Europe, China, Middle East, East Asia and Africa. It also has feeder connections to Colombo, Singapore, Salalah. PSA, one of the leading port operators in the World, has its flagship operations in Singapore and Belgium. It operates an extensive global network of 17 port projects in 11 countries across Europe, India, China and East Asia. In 2003, PSA handled more than 28 million TEUs of containers worldwide.
