PONDICHERRY, AUG. 31. The Pondicherry Lt. Governor, M.M. Lakhera, has stressed that there was no place for misinformation when it comes to cancer. People should be told that the disease, if detected early, could be cured, he said. Inaugurating a one-day cancer awareness programme, organised jointly by the Cancer Care India and the National Cadet Corps here today, Mr. Lakhera said Cancer Care India, a voluntary organisation, was doing the right thing in having NCC cadets spread awareness of the disease. The Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, the Deputy Director General of NCC (Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands) Commodore P.P. Singh, the NCC Group Commander, Col. N. Venugopal, and the chairperson of the Cancer Care India, Harmela Gupta, also spoke. Earlier, NCC volunteers took out a cycle rally to Kamban Kalai Arangam, the venue of awareness programme.
