Competition in science model making

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, AUG. 31. For schoolchildren interested in science and mathematics, here is an opportunity. The Bangalore Science Forum and the Karnataka Rajya Vignana Parishat have organised a State-level competition for schoolchildren in "science model making" in two stages.

The district-level competitions are to be held during September and October at the district headquarters and the winners will participate in the State-level competition to be held in Bangalore in the first week of November. The sponsors are the Karnataka State Students and Teachers' Benefit Fund and the Department of Education.

The competition aims at promoting creativity, scientific temper, and understanding about scientific concepts through easily available material. It has been planned to provide equal opportunity to rural and urban students.

Teachers involved will also be suitably awarded for their efforts. Interested students can register by providing authenticated details in the prescribed format with the district coordinators or the forum of the parishat. The last date for registration is September 10.

The competition will have sections in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology. Each competing team should have a maximum of four students or at least two students. A guide/teacher will guide the project. There can be one team for each subject from each school, up to a maximum of four teams from a school.

The models should be creative, innovative, and economical and should throw light on different scientific concepts. The models should be presented with a project report. The synopsis of the project must be sent along with the registration form. It should consist of title, synopsis, concept, theory, and other details.
