Mar Thoma Prathinidhi Mandalam begins

PATHANAMTHITTA, AUG. 31. The head of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, Philipose Mar Chrisostum Mar Thoma Metropolitan, has called upon the Church to come forward to ensure equality and freedom for all.

Mar Chrisostum was delivering the presidential address at the inaugural session of the Prathinidhi Mandalam, assembly of delegates representing different dioceses of the Church, at the Alexander Mar Thoma Auditorium in Thiruvalla today.

Mar Chrisostum also stressed the need to make arrangements in all the parishes of the Church as well as the panchayats for creating a new social order based on "liberty, equality and fraternity to all''.

The Bishop of the Thiruvalla diocese of the Malankara Catholic Church, Isaac Mar Cleemis, delivered the keynote address at the inaugural function.

The Church Secretary, Fr. Cherian Thomas, presented the annual report and the Trustee, K. Varghese, spoke.

Joseph Mar Ireneus, Zachariaas Mar Theophelos, both Suffragan Metropolitans of the Church, and the bishops of the Church, Geevarghese Mar Athanasius, Geevarghese Mar Theodoceus, Yuyakim Mar Coorilos, Joseph Mar Barnabas, Isaac Mar Phelexinos and Thomas Mar Theophilos also attended the meet.

Special session

A special Mandalam session was held in the afternoon to discuss the amendments to the constitution of the Church. Mar Ireneus presided over the session. The Church Council member, Sasi Philip, presented the resolution on the constitution amendment.

Award presentation

The Mar Thoma Metropolitan would present the Manavaseva Puraskaram to Abraham C. Thomas, founder of the Navajeevan Samithi, tomorrow.

The special Mandalam session would continue tomorrow and the three-day meeting will come to a close on Thursday.
