Towards a new marketing strategy

NEW DELHI AUG 31. The world is moving ahead at the speed of thought, and Indian business practitioners and government must come together to take decisions that spell marketing success and raise the quality of life of the people at large. There has been a sea-change in the way markets are looked at by businesses, and major paradigm shifts in marketing that need to be recognised and addressed by marketers to ensure continuing success in the marketplace.

These were some of the observations made by Amol Sandil, Chairman of ASA Worldwide, in his keynote address at the 32nd Management Seminar organised by Bhavan's Management Group and MBA Department of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here over the week-end. Other speakers were Paresh Karia, Chief Financial Officer of Zee-Turner Ltd; Shyam Vyas, Coordinating-Head of the MBA Department of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan; and D. D. Dhanuka, Director of AA Overseas.

BAQ 2004 in December

NEW DELHI AUG. 31. To discuss air quality management, a three-day international conference on Better Air Quality (BAQ 2004) will be held in Agra from December 6.

To be organised by the Central Pollution Control Board, the Union Ministry for Environment and Forests, and the Clean India Air Initiative for Asian Cities, BAQ 2004 will provide a forum for discussion on air quality management and control techniques and how stakeholders in Asia can benefit from worldwide experience.

The themes likely to be covered at the conference include cost-benefit analysis of air quality monitoring, air quality as regional public good and its governance, measurement, analysis and control of various parameters, politics and economics of public transport and indoor air pollution, its causes and control, including occupational health impact.

A half-day workshop, specifically on India, has also been planned and will cover topics like capacity building, success stories and developing reliable ambient air quality network with public participation. India's CNG experience and its cost benefit analysis will also be discussed.

Participants include private sector, development agencies, non-governmental organisations, government officials, international experts and parliamentarians.

"Though we are yet to get confirmations, we expect that around 600-650 participants are expected to attend the conference, out of which 175 will be Indian participants. It will serve as a forum to encourage discussion among countries,'' said the Chairman of the Central Pollution Control Board, V. Rajagopalan.

Another term for Chancellor

NEW DELHI AUG. 31. Having successfully completed his first tenure as the Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, the former Aligarh Muslim University Vice-Chancellor, Saiyid Hamid, has been nominated again for a second term of five years by the University's Society.

In a statement issued today, the Jamia Hamdard said Mr. Hamid's re-nomination comes into effect from August 20, 2004, and would continue for the next five years. Having served in the Indian Civil Services in Uttar Pradesh and on deputation in the Government of India, Mr. Hamid was the Vice-Chancellor of AMU between 1980 and 1985. An eminent educationist, Mr. Hamid led the "Talimi Caravan'' on numerous occasions to sensitise parents about primary education.

CM releases new seed varieties

NEW DELHI AUG. 31. The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, today released 11 seed varieties of cereals, vegetables and fruits at a function organised by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in collaboration with the Development Department of the Delhi Government. The Development Minister, Raj Kumar Chauhan, presided over the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit said the emerging new technology and innovations should reach the farmers of Delhi. She also underlined the importance of proper marketing, grading, storage, transportation and distribution of agricultural produce. A farmers' market was being developed at Andheria Mor at Mehrauli in South Delhi she informed.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated an exhibition on high-tech agriculture on the occasion.

`Krishna' in gold

NEW DELHI AUG. 31. Three Delhi-based women artists -- Madhu Gupta, Sonal Rasiwasia and Neeta Goyal -- will be exhibiting their paintings in gold titled "Krishna'' from September 2 to 14 at the Indraprastha Art Gallery. The myriad hues, images and expressions of Krishna have been featured in the group show that is being held to coincide with Janmashtami on September 8. Different styles of paintings -- Tanjore, Brindavan, Rajasthani and contemporary style -- have all been combined by the three artistes to present Krishna in various forms.
