VISAKHAPATNAM, AUG. 31. The city council of the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Tuesday asked the State Government to scrap the agreement signed with the Larsen and Toubro for execution of the Godavari water diversion project. After his re-election as secretary at the general body of the city council of the CPI, Ch. Raghavendra Rao told reporters that the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and the Minister for Commercial Taxes, Konathala Ramakrishna, should keep their pre-poll promise to review the project in larger interests of the public. The council's general body, which met at Arilova on Saturday and Sunday, elected P. Veerraju, G. Vaman Murthy and Kosuri Venkata Rao members of the working council. Mr. Raghavendra Rao said that there was no justification in handing over the maintenance of Yeleru Canal to L&T and permit it to execute the diversion project without investing a single rupee.
