NEW DELHI, AUG. 31. Nikhil Kanetkar and Abhinn Shyam Gupta, who just returned from Athens Olympics, recorded fluent wins in the men's team quarterfinal outing of the inter-PSPB badminton tournament at the Siri Fort Complex here on Tuesday. Kanetkar thrashed V. Vatekar 15-1, 15-1 while Gupta beat Divakar 15-2, 15-2 as the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) blanked Indian Petro Chemicals Limited (IPCL) 3-0 and made it to the semifinal. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Oil India Limited (OIL) and Bharat Petroleum Company Limited (BPCL) also made it to the semifinals.
Men: ONGC bt HPCL 3-0 (Thomas Kurian bt B. Gurang 15-4, 15-1; Rohan Kumar bt N.K. Hulsure 15-3, 15-0; Biju/Chetan Anand bt B. Gurang/R.V. Deshmukh 15-1, 15-2).
OIL bt EIL 3-0 (Praveen Kumar bt Y. Singh 15-4, 15-2; B. Bohra bt Rohit Dheer 15-3, 15-0; Pravin Kumar/Ajay Kumar bt Y. Singh/A. Khosla 15-1, 15-7).
BPCL bt GAIL 3-1 (Ravinder Singh lost to George Thomas 1-15, 2-15; Anoop Sridhar bt R. Parihar 15-2, 15-2; Arvind Bhatt/Ajit Vijay bt R.N. Mittal/Amit Singh 15-5, 15-3; Arvind Bhatt bt G. Rajkumar 15-3, 15-4).
