KOLLAM, AUG. 31. The efforts by a team of civil deep-sea diving experts from Tuticorin to retrieve the bodies of the seven trawling boat workers who drowned off the Kollam coast on Saturday night proved futile. A team of divers from the Indian Navy made a vain effort to retrieve the bodies yesterday. The district administration and the police sought the help of the civil divers from Tuticorin after Naval divers' attempts to retrieve the bodies failed. The trawling boat had sunk after colliding with a ship. The seven employees of the boat, all of them natives of Tamil Nadu, drowned after being trapped inside the cabin of the boat. Following failed attempts today, the District Collector, B. Sreenivas, and the Kollam SP, S. Sreejith, jointly sent a fax message to the Indian Navy in Kochi requesting for a second attempt by Naval divers. The divers said that the boat had sunk to a depth of more than 50 m and that the water pressure was too high.
