New assignment for Voeller

ROME, AUG. 31 . Former German national team coach Rudi Voeller arrived Tuesday in Rome to lead his former club AS Roma after the unexpected resignation of manager Cesare Prandelli last week.

``Roma and Italy have always been in my heart,'' the former forward told reporters upon arriving from Germany. He resigned his German national team post following the team's first-round eliminated at the European Championship in July.

Voeller is expected to sign a one-year contact by Wednesday. Prandelli resigned to be near his sick wife. Serie A plays on Sept. 11.

Roma finished second in Serie A, earning an automatic berth in the group phase of the European Champions League. — AP
