SIRCILLA, AUG. 31. Following the spate of suicides by powerloom weavers in Sircilla town, the district administration has appointed 30 community coordinators to counsel distressed weavers.A coordinator was appointed for every 500 weavers. They would visit the weavers' colonies and counsel them not to take the extreme step and also initiate appropriate measures for their welfare. This was disclosed by the Collector, C. Parthasarathi, who inaugurated a mega health camp organised exclusively for the weavers of Sircilla town at the Area Hospital on Tuesday.
Medical camp
The District Medical and Health Department had also chalked out an action plan to provide proper medicare to the weavers and their families by organising health camps in the town. There was good response to the medical camp on the first day with over 934 patients attending the camp.
Rehabilitation
The Collector said that they had submitted a proposal to the Government for the rehabilitation of powerloom weavers at a cost of Rs 21.3 crore by forming cluster groups. The administration was also planning to train powerloom weavers on the modern methods being employed in the industry and also provide alternative employment opportunities.
