CHENNAI, AUG. 31. The sky on Wednesday will be partly cloudy with possibility of mild showers in some areas during the evening or night. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature in Nungambakkam was 37.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 25.8 degrees Celsius. At Meenambakkam, the maximum temperature was 36.7 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 25.6 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels stood at 76 and 68 per cent, respectively.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended in parts of Ayanavaram between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday due to maintenance work.

Metrowater tax

The last date for payment of water, sewerage tax for 2004-05 without surcharges has been extended to September 30, said a release from Chennai Metrowater.

Pollution levels

The level of particulate matter was above the permissible level of 100 microgram per cubic metre (mcg/cm) at residential areas in Anna Nagar (107 mcg/cm) and at the traffic intersection in Vallalar Nagar (206 mcg/cm), according to the readings of Chennai ambient air quality monitoring programme of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board for the 24-hour survey period beginning Thursday 6 a.m.

`Best model'

A working model of treatment and recycling of wastewater by students of Selaiyur branch of Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School was adjudged the best among the 90 models exhibited by various schools at a State-level environment exposition in Erode on Monday.
