`10,000 student visa applications processed'

MANIPAL, AUG. 31. Franc Shelton, Vice-Consul of U.S. Consulate, Chennai, said on Tuesday that nearly 10,000 student visa applications had been processed since April this year.

Mr. Shelton was speaking as chief guest at the 11th Twinning Programme organised by the International Centre for Applied Sciences, a unit of MAHE, here.

Mr. Shelton said students should take the application process to the visas seriously. Students included in the twinning programme got an opportunity to study in some of the best universities in the U.S., he said. B.S. Prabhu, Director of Manipal Institute of Technology, said the golden jubilee of the institute would be celebrated in the next three years. The institute was likely to have collaboration with some industrial houses to set up laboratories, he said.

H.S. Ballal, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE, said that the applications of not even one student of the centre had been rejected. MAHE gave utmost importance to quality of education and transparency. The teachers at the centre visited the universities abroad and constantly updated the curriculum to keep up with the international standards, he said.

U.D. Kamath, Director of the centre, welcomed the gathering. G.M.J. Bhat, Deputy Director of the centre, proposed a vote of thanks.
