HYDERABAD, AUG. 31. The Hyderabad police are "considering" writing to the Government to ban the Tehreek Tehfooz Shariat-e-Islam (TTSI), the president of which was among those who were arrested on the charge of being LeT agents. Asked if the TTSI would be banned as it was linked to the LeT, that was banned in several countries for carrying out terrorist activities, the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, R.P. Singh, at a press conference on Tuesday, said the police had no power to prohibit such organisations. However, he maintained that the police would "consider" writing to the Government suggesting the move listing out its unlawful activities.
DJS charge refuted
Referring to some "threatening remarks" made by the Darsgah Jihad-O-Shahadat (DJS) president, Mahboob Ali, on Monday, Mr. Singh said Section 502 (criminal intimidation) of IPC would be invoked against him after watching his audio and video recordings. The Commissioner refuted charges of the DJS that he was an agent of a particular religious organisation. "I am not agent of any organisation. As a police officer I am apolitical," he remarked.
